Democracy OR Dictatorship?

In 2019, the most compile list  journalists arrested or imprisoned in connection with their work shows complex cases of jailed activist-journalists. Some are in detentions because they were involved in political activities than their journalistic work.
Omoyele Sowore, the Nigerian activist and journalist is a typical example of this. The founded of Sahara Reporters  does not appear on prison but his detention and re-arrest  matter. He was charged of corruption and other political issues.
His detention has grabbed the world’s attention in part because of the wider, ongoing crackdown on free expression in Nigeria.

What’s next? The Nigerian Senate don’t know!!!

Amnesty International stated that the Nigerian Senate is currently considering two harsh bills on Nigerians relating to freedom of expression through social media, including one which proposes the death penalty for ‘hate speech.’ These bills are supported by the Nigerian government. These bills represent an alarming escalation in the authorities’ attempts to censor and punish social media users for freely expressing their opinions.
The proposed National Commission for the Prohibition of Hate Speech bill, and the Protection from Internet Falsehood and Manipulation and other Related Offences bill, give authorities arbitrary powers to shut down the internet and limit access to social media, and make criticizing the government punishable with penalties of up to three years in prison.
Nowadays, Social media is one of the remaining places where Nigerians can express their opinions freely. The harassment of journalists and bloggers and the introduction of the Cyber Crimes Act have already shrunk the civic space and created a climate of fear,” said Seun Bakare, Programmes Manager Amnesty International Nigeria.

INADEQUATE USE OF TECHNOLOGY

One of the problems Nigeria is facing is lack or inadequate use of technology. Nigeria as a country should be in a position to enjoy good facilities of modern technology but reverse is the case. In a country boast of population approximately 200 millions, could not afford a well meaning of modern technology. Let's take for instance:
Firstly, the use of computer. In our various stages of knowledge (primary school, junior and senior secondary and university) lack use of computer. The only place that we can find computer (if working) maybe the vice chancellor's offices, the principal's offices and accountant's offices.
In facts, many students have to enroll themselves in computer school after they had finished their school certificate. The places where computers are being used are international airport, banks, immigration offices and individual's offices.
Secondly, communication means. lack of land phones in Nigeria to communicate and for the use of WI FI is a major problems.
The Federal Government has decried it inability to have direct and secure communication channels with the Nigerian embassies and high commission.said the foreign affairs minister.
Nigeria federal offices don't have a basic communication channels to communicate among each other.

MISMANAGEMENT OF FUNDS.

MISMANAGEMENT OF FUNDS.

1)GOVERNMENT BORROWING: We all knew that World Bank has approved Nigeria’s request for $3bn loan  for the expansion of the

power transmission and distribution networks. This is unnecessary borrowing because Government has another way to generate
this amount by cutting down the cost of governance.Federal Government’s request for additional loans was unjustifiable.
because INTERNATIONAL OIL COMPANIES owed the country and Federal Government of Nigeria does not focus on the recovery of more
than $100bn from the international oil companies.

Federal Government should pursue the payment of funds accrual to Nigeria from periodic adjustments in remittances by

the International Oil Companies  subject to increases in the price of crude oil above $US20 per barrel.
Nigerian government officials failed to activate this clause for more than 20 years thus allowing the IOCs to
stash away more than $US100 billion in unpaid royalties to Nigeria.

2)LOOT FUNDS:The stolen funds have now been recovered and paid into a special recovery fund after a five-year legal battle.

The fund will be shared between the Nigerian government, Jersey and the US government, according to Jersey authorities
overseeing the case.

3)EFCC RECOVERY under his watch recovered N794 billion, $261 million (about N77.8 billion), £1.1 million

Nigeria is ranked 137th as one of the dangerous country to live.
